Come one, come all!

It's here. The event we have all been waiting for. To the company members that are going to be the base on which it is built; I thank you for all the work you have done, and even more for the work you are about to do. It means a lot, to the producers, but more importantly, to this town. You all are part of making Carrboro, and the Triangle as a whole, a special place to be. We should all be proud of that.

I won't be here for the next week while we sort this festival thing out.
___________

I think the coolest TV talk show move is the 'leave immediately after your interview'. Not many celebrities can pull it off. Most stick around to interact with the second, lesser celebrity. Both of them then stick around for the, even lesser stand-up comic, and so forth until we see Bobcat Goldthwaite stands next to Gary Brolsma the Numa Numa who is giggling at something Dane Cook just whispered in his ear. That is typical.

But tonight, I saw Clint Eastwood on the Tonight Show. And Leno ended the interview with the rarely uttered, "...Well. I know you have to go. Thanks for coming." And before the break, Mr. Eastwood stands, shakes Jay's hand, and begins to leave the stage. Where is it that he could be going that the 30 second headstart somehow makes his daily schedule possible? That is a movie star, ladies and gentlemen.

Superbowl - Hooray?

So, tomorrow is the height of global marketing. Commercials, commercials, commercials. And what do the best commercials share? Humor.

So, if you don't get your fill of comedy during the numerous breaks in the Superbowl, come on out and see some funnies in Carrboro. DSIF7 is all set to begin on Tuesday night and will continue through Sunday.

Oh, and I also need to reintroduce my yearly argument that the Superbowl should be held in the city of the previous year's winning team. How much more excitng would this game be if the Colts and Bears were playing in Pittsburgh tomorrow night? Pretty awesome. How cool would it be if Pittsburgh had won the title in Foxboro (boo, it should have been Philly)? Either way, if you want a city to get behind a team, then tie hundreds of millions of dollars in local community revenue to the city. It would be briliant.

A Start to a Good Day

A complete breakfast, I learned this morning, contains not just a balance of whole wheats, protein and dairy, but also a argument with a drunk guy named Jason.

No, not me, the other Jason.

I will sum up the argument by stating the opposing points of view:

Me: It is not okay to drink until sunrise 10 feet from another house on a Monday morning.
Jason: There is only one window.
Me: Getting dressed and coming over to ask them to keep it down at 4:45am can easily be done by calling the cops.
Jason: Calling the cops is lame.
Me: Next time, just do it in your house.
Jason: I don't even live here.
Me: Just do it in your fucking house.
Jason: You're a fucking bag of shit.
Me: ???
Jason: I'm drunk.

On the upside, it really gets your heartrate going.

Get your bike fix this weekend!

Tonight: Ryan, Dino and Austin are out of town which means that you have a chance to make it out alive.  DSI Comedy Theater @ 11pm - just $5.

Tomorrow Night: Community Bike is Cagematch champions.  Ryan, Dino, Austin and Jeremy are out of town which means that  Jason and Lauren are going to destroy you on their own.  No one will be able to  say it wasn't a fair fight.  We will be defending our title against NY152 -- don't ask.

Cleaning House

On a side note: I was cleaning the keyboard of my iBook G4 today, and with one alcohol-clothed swoop my 'Improv' bookmark folder was eradicated.

What the fuck does that mean?

Del Close Marathon 2006

New York and Carrboro are very different.  I do, however, realize after this weekend that I fit in and love them both.  New York reaffirmed something about myself that doesn't often get reaffirmed which is that sometimes, it is okay to be an asshole.

So much happened this weekend that it is hard to sit down and describe it all.  The city simply saturates your senses at every opportunity.  I woke up both Saturday and Sunday morning with my heart racing and I have to wonder if that was due to improv or the city itself.  It seems that the city just kicks you in the ass in the morning, says "Hey, fucker.  Get the fuck up and enjoy me."

I spent Saturday afternoon walking around by myself and enjoying the grid.  I happened upon the Flatiron building which made me think about the past.  I sat down in Madison Park next to Flatiron and thought about the future for a moment.  It was pretty surreal.

It was nice to be alone in the middle of all of that.

The marathon itself was awesome.  There were many great performances and some not so great.  The people at UCB are incredible though and the marathon seemed to operate without a hitch.   Thank you to everyone that made that happen.

So, now on to the DSI shows.  They were awesome.  All of the performers that made the trek from Carrboro did great work.  Squire and Killer Rabbit had great shows.  Considering that those teams were cast just three weeks ago speaks volumes about the "interchangeable" nature of the theater company here.  We are all close, and we all like to play with each other.  Mister Diplomat had to follow I Eat Pandas, which was one of the most enjoyable shows that I have ever seen.  They killed it.

As far as our show on Sunday afternoon, it is tough to give an objective review let alone try and speak on behalf of the team.  So I will simply say that it was a joy to perform at UCB and I had a lot of fun.  It is so reassuring to know that we are all comfortable enough with one another that a big show like this can be so successful.  We supported the shit out of each other and we found some really fun material to play around with.

So, after a long weekend (and a long day of recovery) I am back and ready to rock out.  24Live is next, and it's time to get to work.
