Alright YouTube, you are now owned by Google. What does that mean? Well, besides never having to tell your son Timmy that he is going to go hungry for Christmas, you also have the resources to improve your fucking web site.
Specifically, the view counters. For just one clip a person can find three or four different counts of how many people have viewed their videos. Why is this? Um, sloppy coding and an infrastructure in which programmers do not have access to the resources that they need. Its as simple as updating all of the various databases so that they are synced with the most current data. Easy.
I'm not a programmer, so maybe its hard, especially considering the traffic to the site, but I find it hard to believe that within a three day period, it is not possible to correctly communicate the number of views a clip has.
YouTube, if you want all us new media dorks to build methods for utilizing your technology for PR and marketing purposes, then you will find a way to more efficiently provide us with statistics on the videos we share. The lifeblood of the site is the user generated content, and you have a responsibility (especially if you are going to be advertising to us based on that content) to develop a trusted and accurate statistical model.
If you don't, your site will remain "crappy".
In your face.
