What an amazing lunch I had today.
First, I should mention that Ernesto has offered his hand, and my first impression is that the next few days are going to be wet. Very wet. The thunderclaps are loud, the grey clouds are way too close to the ground, and people look a little on edge because of it.
But, back to my lunch. I went to Bruegger's Bagels and, due to my utter hatred of bad puns used in the naming of dishes or, in this case, sandwiches I asked for a "veggie" bagel as opposed to a "Leonardo da Veggie". There was some confusion though as Bruegs has more veggie options than what is on the menu. Turns out, that for those that don't like sounding like idiots when we order our lunch, you can just call it a "Leo". Awesome tip from the Bagel Artist behind the counter.
Then, on the way out, a homeless guy who looked more like Santa Clause than "The Dude", albeit sporting an unhealthy layer of grime, asked me for some change. He had a broad smile on his face when he asked, which made my typical (and in this case true) response of, "Sorry man, I don't have any cash" that much harder to mutter. Then, without question, he says "That's cool. Can you give me five?" it was innocent, and dare I say, sweet. So, right there on the street we gave each other a low-five. I told him to have a great day and he replied, earnestly, "You too. And, hey, I love you man."
It wasn't awkward, or even down-on-his-luck-homoerotic. It was just a good sentiment.
So, faithful readers, to you I say..."Hey, I love you."
You got any change?
